PITCHING
The Pitching Page displays the starting rotation, bullpen, and minor league pitchers for any one team. To choose which team is displayed, click on the 'Team' dropdown listbox above the player list and select a team. To select which stats are displayed for each player, click the 'Season' listbox and select 'This Season', 'Last Season', 'Career', or 'Minors'. The 'Career' setting will show cumulative career pitching totals for each player. 'Minors' will show minor league stats for the current season.

The Pitching Page also lets you set the pitching rotation and bullpen arrangement of your team. The first five positions on the screen are your starting rotation. The second six positions are your bullpen. Each bullpen position is defined as follows:

  1. Closer
  2. Setup
  3. Short Reliever
  4. Middle Reliever
  5. Long Reliever
  6. Spot Starter

To move pitchers around in your rotation or bullpen, click the listbox to the left of the players name and select his destination (the player in that spot will be swapped with the player you pick).

The Auto-Sort button uses the computer AI to set your rotation and bullpen for you.

To select how the computer manager uses your starting pitchers, select one of the following options from the list at the top of your pitching rotation:

ROTATION DESCRIPTION
Strict 5-man The #1 pitcher will not pitch again until the #5 starter has pitched.
Loose 5-man The #5 pitcher will occasionally be skipped if the #1 pitcher has had an extra day off.
Mixed 4/5 The #5 pitcher will be skipped if the #1 pitcher had an extra day off or is well rested.
Loose 4-man The #5 pitcher will be skipped frequently in favor of the #1 pitcher. The #5 pitcher will be used on occasion in long relief.
Strict 4-man The #5 pitcher is omitted from the starting rotation -- he will be used as a long reliever or starter in case of injury.
In the playoffs, the rotation length is automatically shortened by one pitcher. We recommend checking the pitching screen at the beginning of the playoffs to make sure your rotation is properly set.

You can also change which pitcher will start the next game by selecting a name from the Next Starter list. At the beginning of each season (between the end of spring training and the first game of the regular season) the Next Starter for each team is automatically reset to the first pitcher in the rotation.

A drop-down listbox at the bottom of the Pitching Page gives you extra control over the use of your starting pitchers in the last week of the regular season. The default option (shown) is to continue using your starting pitchers exactly in the order shown under 'Rotation'. Alternatively, you can choose to ask the computer to automatically replace your top 3 starting pitchers with minor league pitchers, in the event that you have clinched a playoff spot. This will help ensure that your best starting pitchers are well rested in preparation for the playoffs.
